Woodland to Mississipian Cultures (1600 - 1000) B.P.
The Hamilton point is the most numerous point I find in this area, my log book and collection data indicate that it represents about 15% of all the points that I have collected. In reality it is probable that it is more like 25% of the points found if I include broken ones. I usually don't collect points with more than 20% damage because it is hard to identify the point, but ID of Hamilton points is easier because of their unique characteristics:
Characteristics:
SIZE : These are small points measuring about 1/2" to 2", with most being around 1".
KEY FEATURE: Triangular with incurvate sides and base.
THICKNESS: Very thin with most exhibiting some translucents to light.
SIMILAR TYPES: Madison, Yadkin, Guntersville, Camp Creek, Fort Ancient, Sand Mountian.
FLAKING: Random woodland most of very high quality, some have serations on edges and needle tips.
